What is an "Untensive"?

What are the signs that I “need” an Untensive?

An Untensive is a multiple-day retreat that will gently immerse you in the easy-body practices of InterPlay, a 20-year-old system that can create more connection and ease in your life. InterPlay is incremental and affirming.

In InterPlay you will find new access to your stories, movement and voice. This is the easiest way to experience the powerful integration of mind, body, heart and spirit. It is also the quickest way to community connection. You will also learn concrete tools that you can apply in your daily life, like exformation, body wisdom practices, easy focus, and the physicality of grace.

InterPlay is something that any body can do—regardless of size, shape,Change? ability, color, background, gender, orientation, belief, or nationality. All you need is a little willingness. Expect to laugh, savor and relax. Expect to be surprised by what you can do!

What if I am shy or not sure that I am creative enough?

InterPlay is happening in 50 cities on five continents. Over 700 people have graduated from the InterPlay Life Practice Program. Many people are applying InterPlay in their personal, professional and organizational lives. InterPlay is a great multicultural, peace-building practice.

What is an “Untensive” Retreat?

relax, connect, play, learn, create

trio dancingAt an “Untensive” retreat, you get to relax, connect, play, laugh, be moved and you get to learn helpful ideas and tools that can create more ease, fullness, purpose and satisfaction in your life.

At an Untensive, you will learn several of the InterPlay “forms,”—simple and incremental ways of playing around with words, movement, sound and stillness. As you play, you will find out more about yourself and others. Wonderful community connections develop that often are maintained after the Untensive is over.

New to InterPlay? An Untensive is a great place to get an overview of InterPlay practices and ideas. Experienced InterPlayers are also welcome. At any particular Untensive there will be an interesting mix of people with different levels of experience. Everyone will be included and everyone will have opportunities to be gently challenged.

InterPlay gently unlocks the wisdom of your body.

  • What do you know?
  • How can you get more of what you want?
  • What gives you satisfaction?
  • What creates ease?
  • What about your life do you want to change?

Untensives (usually three or four days long) are held frequently across the country and in other parts of the world. They are led by the most experienced InterPlay leaders, including InterPlay co-founders Cynthia Winton-Henry and Phil Porter. Sometimes they are residential events at a retreat center or hotel.

If you answer “yes” to any of these questions then you may “need” an Untensive!

  • Do you want more fun in your life?
  • Is the stress of your life wearing you down?
  • Do you find yourself consumed with fulfilling the needs of others?
  • Are you looking for connections with others?
  • Would you like to get some attention for yourself?
  • Is your creative side yearning for some expression?
  • Do wish you had more confidence in yourself?
  • Would you like to get to know some new people?
  • Are you dealing with a physical change that you are having trouble adjusting to?
  • Are you tired of words, words, words?
  • Could you use some support in getting the things you want in your life?
  • Do you need to relax for a bit?
  • Does your spirit need to be refreshed or renewed?
  • Do you feel like you want the benefits of meditation, but you can’t or don’t want to sit still?
  • Are you a kinesthetic learner (do you learn best through movement and activity)?

Change Your Life! Change Your World!

Leadership Program graduationInterPlay can change your life and change your world by giving you easy access to the wisdom of your body. What if you could make choices in your life based on what works best for you, rather than what others think is right?

But you don’t have to change! You are fine just the way you are. In InterPlay change is a choice, not an obligation.

Shy? Not feeling creative?

Women chattingYou don’t have to be an extroverted artist to do InterPlay. Most of us are pretty shy and few of us think of ourselves as being all that creative. InterPlay is easy and incremental. It is a gradual and affirming way to find freedom and fun.

Throughout our lives we have been taught how to contain ourselves. In the process we may have lost abilities that are crucial for our wellbeing, not to mention just having fun.
